Bored tunnel segmental lining – design forces, segment, joints and rebar ratio
Design forces in a segmental tunnel lining for four load cases, RC or SFRC segment capacity and crack width, radial and circumferential joint checks and the steel–concrete ratio.
Calculation method
Muir Wood (1975) continuum model modified by Curtis (1976) for the lining forces in four load combinations (lowest groundwater, groundwater at ground level, flood level, future distortion after Morgan); segment design to EN 1992-1-1 (RC) or fib Model Code 2010 (SFRC); radial and circumferential joint bursting (BS 8110 Table 4.7) and bearing; rebar quantity per ring. Work through the four tabs in order.
